Because every blog post needs a little baby. |
6am.
Of my own free will.
Crazy.
Here's the deal: Axel's best stretch of sleep is from 8pm until 2am. And then I feed him and he sleeps again until 5:30 or 6. And then he wakes up for the day at 8am. I try to go to bed at 10pm but I just wasn't tired enough. I was worn out, sure, but getting almost 10 hours of sleep (even though it wasn't really quality) made it hard to fall asleep easily.
So the new plan: Wake up to feed Axel at 5:30 or 6 and stay up. I can remember to take my iron supplement, eat my breakfast in peace, read my blogs in silence, shower before noon. . . so many great advantages. But the best part (I'm hoping) is that I'll more easily fall asleep. Maybe even at 9pm! That would give me a 5 hour stretch of sleep! And then another 3-4 hours after that.
The less broken my sleep is, the better.
I feel like we've been down this road before. . .
oy I don't know how you Mama's do it!
ReplyDeleteAs a person who NEEDS my sleep, I didn't know how it could be done either. You just sort of. . . do it.
DeleteEls has been waking up to eat at 5 and staying up til 730 when brother wakes up... I should take a page out of your book and do some laundry or something instead of trying to rock her back to sleep.
ReplyDeleteI cannot imagine this sleep schedule, yet I'm hoping to start a family this year....
ReplyDeleteYou can do it! This only last for a few months, and after a few weeks it gets so you just pick them up and feed them and lay them back down. Doesn't take more than 10 minutes. I don't even open my eyes!
DeleteThat being said, yeah I knew what I was getting myself into, but I didn't really KNOW until Olivia was born.
That sounds like me on the weekends. Every time I try to go back to sleep after the 6am feed, I end up more tired than if I had just gotten up in the first place. Now I like to get up and do email or laundry or just eat breakfast in peace after that early morning feed. Of course, somedays Guinevere decides she wants to stay up too . . .
ReplyDeleteYeah that was today, but luckily Axel is cool with chillin' on the couch while I catch up on blogs.
DeleteI am the same...I always wake up before my boys...but I've learned to enjoy it and get a lot done (just like said!)
ReplyDeleteI loved reading about your day yesterday. I love my babies but I think it will be even more fun when they get a little older!
