Kickin' it oldschool

On Tuesday I read this post by my friend Julia.  A quick google search later and I found a random myspace survey.  My cousins and I used to really love these things.  In fact, I remember Hayley and Lauren wrote a survey and made it a contest for the funniest answers.  I miss those days.  So here are my answers to a myspace survey with 62 questions.  If you decide to go oldschool with me, copy this and write your own answers on your blog and leave me the link!!  I wanna read what you have to say!

VIA
1. Song that always makes you sad?
Probably Eleanor Rigby.  As I continued writing this Tears in Heaven came on my pandora playlist.  That one for sure.  Skipping it.

2. Last thing you bought?
Is it a good thing that I can't remember?  Oh wait, I couldn't remember because it was BORING.  I bought formula and diapers and wipes.

3. Last person you argued with?
Probably Adam.  Not because I don't love him, but just because we're together all the time.  More opportunity for disagreement.

4. Do you put Butter before putting the peanut butter on?
Absolutely NOT.

5. One of your stuffed animals' names as a kid?
Thomas H. Dooley.  The H was for Hermansen, my maiden name.  Little did I know my married name would be Thomas.  Did I just blow your mind????

6. Did you ever own at one time a Barenaked Ladies Cd?
Nope.

7. Favorite day of the week?
Friday or Saturday.  Friday is just like any other day of the week, but you're happy just because its the last one.  It doesn't really make sense.  But by the time its Saturday the weekend seems almost over. . .

VIA
8. Favorite Sundae topping?
Home made hot fudge.  Stuff from a jar just cannot compare.

9. Did you take Piano lessons?
Yes.

10. Most frequent song played?
On the radio?  How would I know?!?!?!  Or maybe they meant when I played the piano?  I really liked Claire de Lune.  Because of Oceans 11.

11. T.V. show you secretly enjoy?
The Bachelor.  Although its probably not a secret, but I'm not totally proud of my viewership.  I know they aren't going to find true love or anything, I'm just fascinated by the reason someone would go on the show after all these seasons proving that it DOESN'T WORK.  No matter, I still love it.  I hope that the good girl/guy wins in the end, but I know it most likely wont end in marriage.  I don't know why I like it so much!!!  I guess its like people watching in detail.

12. Would you rather play basketball or hockey?
Gee, if I really have to, I choose basketball, just because it seems less likely that I'll injure myself.

13. Date someone older or younger?
I'm married so I have to say how it is:  Younger.

14. One place you could travel right now?
VIA
Could?  Or would?  I would go to St George just because its close and warmer and it wouldn't be too hard to take Olivia on a 4 hour drive.

15. Do you use umbrellas?
Not really.  I own one, I think.  I don't know where it is.  I just let my hair get wet and it is what it is.

VIA
16. Do you know all the words to the Canadian national anthem?
I don't even know ONE word.

17. Favorite Cheese?
Pepperjack.

18. The Smith's or the Cure?
Um, I'm sure I know songs by both groups but I can't really make an informed decision right now.

19. Do you prefer Blondes or Brunettes?
Blondes.

20. Best job you ever had?
Working at a dr's office is pretty much my ideal job.

21. Did you go to your high school prom?
Yeppers.  Both my junior and senior year.  Not my best memories.  Not bad, just not all its cracked up to be.

22. Perfect time to wake up?
VIA
6am in the summer, 8am in the winter.

23. Perfect time to go to bed?
9:30pm

I have no game plans for chess.  I just do what I want and lose.

25. Ever been in a car accident?
Yes.

26. Closer to mom or dad...or neither?
Both.  Its different with each of them.

27. What age is this exciting life over for you?
NEVER!  I think our preferences change as we age so even though getting old looks boring to us now, I bet it wont be when we get there.

28. What decade during the 20th century would you have chosen to be a teenager?
1960s.  No doubt.

29. Favorite shoes you have EVER owned?
Probably some high heeled hot pink shoes.  They might not be my favorite right now, but they were my most favorite when I bought them.  Does that even make sense???

30. Do you have an article of clothing you have had since you were in high school?
Yes, two skirts from the very end of my senior year.  They still fit!!

31. Were you in track and field?
Nope.

32. Were you ever in a school talent show?
Yes in elementary, Missy, Stephanie and I all wore vests and sang a song Missy's sister wrote.

33. Have you ever written in a library book?
Probably.  I don't remember.  My dad used to write in my school text books all the time and I would freak out!

34. Allergic to?
Almost all fresh fruits and vegetables.  Eating local honey every day takes them away but they come right back if I stop doing that.  Crazy.

35. Favorite fruit?
Fresh peaches off my parents tree in California.  Well, I'm sure any fresh peaches would be good.
VIA

36. First celebrity crush?
I think it had to be Jonathan Taylor Thomas.  I don't think girls my age were given a choice.

37. Baseball hat or toque?
Who wrote this?  Do people actually call it a toque?  I say neither because hats aren't allowed at the school where I work.  And I forget to wear them the rest of the time!

38. Do you shampoo first in the shower or soap?
Shampoo very first so the conditioner can soak in while I wash and shave.

39. Wet the toothbrush or brush dry with the toothpaste?
Either.  I don't have a strong preference one way or the other.

40. Pen or pencil?
Pen for most stuff, pencil for my grade book and lesson book.

41. Have you ever gambled at a casino?
Yep and I won $20.  Stopped right there and walked away.  I know how to quit when I'm ahead.

42. Have you thrown up on a plane?
Same trip as the gambling actually!  I was sitting by my boss from the school district.  I was pregnant so that's why I was so sick.

43. Have you thrown up in a car?
Oh yes, lots of times.

44. Have you thrown up at work?
Despite being pregnant all last year, I never did throw up at work.

45. Do you scream on roller coasters?
I don't know.  I'm sure I do, but its one of those things I don't pay attention to.

52. How old were you when you first moved away from your hometown?
18

53. Who was your first grade teacher?
Mrs. Something-That-Started-With-An-S.  Yeah, I probably would have changed it if that was my last name.

54. Where did you go on your first airplane ride?
Utah?  I was a baby, I don't remember.  But my first plane ride I can remember, I went to Amman Jordan.

55. When you snuck out of your house for the first time, who was it with?

Life in Pictures

I don't have a smart phone.  Does that mean I have a dumb phone?  It can hold about 60 medium quality pictures at a time and then it tells me its full.  And I think somewhere my husband has an SD card that you can put into your phone, but we probably lost it during the move.  So I have about 8 months worth of random pictures on my phone that I sent to my email one at a time during a very boring meeting last week.

So, the last 8 months of my life in random phone pictures:

Olivia in summer clothes, and a bib because she was a spit up machine!

Olivia sleeping in her bassinet.  She slept there until she was almost 9 months!

My little bald baby!  I took this picture just to have on my phone when I was at work and missing my nugget!

Adam did a mud run in September and killed any desire I might have of ever doing it with him.

Same day as the mud run, Olivia was wiped out but would not let go of her toy!!

I made Olivia this little outfit for the BYU vs Utah football game.  Adam wasn't happy.

I made this Halloween skirt for Olivia and then washed it after she spit up on it.  It totally ruined it.  This should only be handwashed!

Olivia in her Tigger Halloween costume.

Olivia at Thanksgiving

Olivia learning to blog.

The tree my students decorated for Festival of Trees (donated to Primary Children's).  I made the tree skirt.

A cool design made from different light bulbs at Anthropologie.  Took this while I was on a shopping field trip with my students at the Gateway mall.  This is why people should take my fashion class!!

Olivia on Valentine's Day.  Always eating with that one leg on the tray.  Crazy girl.

Practicing flips in the kitchen.  And freaking mom out.

First warm day for playing outside this year!!

Nail Polish

In case you haven't heard of this, or in case you haven't tried it. . .

Sally Hansen Insta-dri Nail Polish is where its at!!

I never wear nail polish on my fingers (my toes are painted always from March-October) because it chips so easily and I never have time to let it dry.

But I can paint my nails with this and 15 minutes later I'm good to go.  I mean, that's not even a full episode of Modern Family!

My favorite color right now is Petal Pusher, a really light pink (kind of like the color of my blog, interesting. . . ).  I had to buy a new bottle because mine from two years ago was all dried up.  I was so sad to buy new nail polish! (haha, NOT)

Bachelor Vocabulary

I love watching The Bachelor.  A lot of people don't understand that.  I know these relationships aren't going to last, most of the time.  I do root for the girls/guys that seems good and sincere, even though they probably wont ever get married.  That being said, the main reason I love the show is to make fun of it.   I like to make fun of the strange things people say, they weird looks they make when they think no one is watching and I really like to laugh at the catch phrases that The Bachelor is known for.  If they aren't giving the contestants a list of words they have to work into every day conversation, I'm going to be VERY surprised.  So, if you're new to The Bachelor, here are some words and phrases you'll need to know.

Cocktail Party: All good parties have lots of alcohol, 25 girls and 1 guy.

What did I do wrong?: It makes me sad when girls say this (usually after the first cocktail party) because love isn't about what you do or don't do, it's about who you are attracted too, and who compliments you as a person.

Date card: This is how the bachelor asks girls out.  No wonder he's had a hard time finding a wife off TV.

Fairy Tale: It's what all these girls are looking for.  It seems like these girls had a different version of Cinderella than I did, one where the prince handed out 15 glass slippers, and then slowly narrowed it down week by week until Cinderella received the last glass slipper.  See also: I'm ready to meet my prince charming

I'm ready to meet my prince charming: Do you remember that one season with a guy who actually was a prince?  A prince of like nothing. . . but still.  I have to wonder if this is where all the royalty/fairy tale talk originated.

Here for the right reason: At some point every one's sincerity will be questioned.  And it doesn't matter how compatible you are with the bachelor, or what values you have in common, most conversations will center around proving that you are, in fact, here for the right reasons.

We have a connection: Every one does, but who has the strongest connection?  Only one person knows, and his contract says he can't tell you until the season finale.

I don't want to get hurt: Then don't go on a show with 24 losers and one winner.  Odds are against you.

Most dramatic ___________ in bachelor history: Rose ceremony, finale, after the final rose, breakup, hairstyle, pick a random word and its probably been used in this sentence.  I wonder how hard Chris Harrison has to try not to laugh.

Most controversial _____________ EVER: I'm going to need Chris Harrison to explain to me the difference between dramatic and controversial.  Maybe he just changes it up to keep things fresh, yeah right.

Ben refused to pose for this picture, so they had to use the wax statue of him from Madame Tussaud's.

Ladies, Ben, this is the final rose.  When you're ready.: Does Chris think we can't count to ONE???

If you didn't receive a rose take a moment, say your goodbyes.: Once again, thank you for stating the obvious.

I need her to open up to me: I'm not even going to touch this one. . .

I know my wife/husband is in this room: That's creepy.  What do they think of the 25 other women you've got hanging out in scandalous dresses?

__________ is the perfect place to fall in love: Fiji, Bora Bora, Switzerland, Detroit, Hell.  Does the location really matter?  Because if it does. . . you're going to have problems.

Falling in love: You can't actually be in love until the final rose, I think its in their contract.  So until then, you can only be "falling" in love.

I didn't know it was going to be this hard: No matter how many bachelors/bachelorettes say this, you'll never know until you're there.

Journey: Mostly refers to the emotional journey, but it can also refer to the fact that they have major jet lag from being dragged across the world to at least five different countries.  You have to use this word at least three times during each of the last three episodes.

Did I miss any?

Parents Think I'm Crazy

VIA
I'm taking my students on an over night field trip.  I do this twice every year.  In order for a student to attend I need TWO forms filled out.  A medical permission slip, that needs to be notarized, (because one time a kid forged his parent's signature and went on an over night trip and the parents called the cops and a search was going out for this boy. . . thank bud, for the extra work you make me do) and a parent meeting signature list showing all the parents of all the students and whether or not they approve of the proposed over night travel.

So I planned a parent meeting for last night.  Five of my parents called to say they couldn't come.  That's cool, I can write down "phone call" in the signature box.  Five of my parents came to the meeting.  They signed, thank you for that.  So I have six more parents to call today.  Imagine their confusion.

Me: Hi I'm Suzy's* FCCLA Advisor and I need to know if you approve of over night travel.
Parent: Yeah I thought I gave Suzy that notarized form we had to fill out. . .
Me: Um, yeah, you did.  But see, I have this other form to fill out.  I need your signature and to know if you approve or do not approve.  Its okay though, I can just put "phone call" in the signature box.  So I'm calling you. . .
Parent: Um, yes, I approve.  I thought that was obvious.
Me: Yes its obvious to me.  But I guess its not to um. . . other people?  I don't get it either.  Thank you for your time.

Ug.  It is just SO AWKWARD.

* Suzy is not one of my actual students.

Word Verification

VIA
I didn't know there was word verification on this blog.  I thought I turned it off.  WELLLLLL. . . it was still there so I guess I didn't.  Probably comes from having two blogs and not remembering if you've already done something or not!  Anyway, gone now.  I hate those things.
